PGA of America Boosts its Golfers’ Swing Thanks to Technogym Solutions

The game of golf has impacted many lives through centuries of tradition and comradery. A golf participant can be a first-time patron, an avid fan, or a seasoned ball-striker. With one solid hit of the golf ball, you can become obsessed with everything golf. From equipment to clothes to courses, one ingredient remains constant for success on the golf course, the golf swing.

Evolution of Golf

Over time, the golf swing has evolved from a classical stroke of genius to an aggressive force of nature. These modifications are representative of the improved golf equipment, athletic clothing, and longer golf courses. According to the World Golf Foundation, more golfers are learning from golf teaching professionals the fundamentals of the golf swing than any period in history.

Why would a golfer spend more time learning how to swing the golf club the correct way? The simple answer might be to play better golf; however, research shows that for golfers to perform better, they must condition their bodies to biomechanically swing the golf club efficiently. The proper kinematic sequencing of the golf swing prevents injuries and swing flaws.

A great ball-striker can control each component of their body from the starting position to the finish – setup, takeaway, top of back swing, downswing, impact, follow through (finish).

Healthy Partnership for Golf

With more than 38 million golfers worldwide generating upwards of 84 billion in revenue, the PGA of America empowers close to 29,000 golf teaching professionals with the latest research and innovation for instruction. The new PGA of America headquarters and the PGA Frisco Coaching Center located in Frisco, Texas will feature wall-to-wall Technogym wellness solutions.

According to PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh, “In partnering with Technogym, the PGA of America’s new headquarters and PGA Frisco Coaching Center will feature state-of-the-art training equipment that will benefit golfers on their golf journey, and we have a trusted partner whose technology and quality our Membership can count on to help their students. As performance training has become a larger part of golf coaching, this was a perfect opportunity for this kind of collaboration.”

The PGA of America’s mission is to help you navigate your golf journey so that you can take it as far as you want to go. Technogym’s mission is to help people live a better life through wellness. The partnership between the two organizations builds an aligned platform of healthy initiatives that improves the game of golf through research and development embedded in the future of golf instruction.

Technogym Golf Performance Solutions

To play better golf, prevent injuries, and enjoy the game of golf longer, the PGA of America and Technogym partnered to provide golf performance solutions for this generation and the next. Three examples of innovation and exceptional performance tools for golf are Technogym’s Kinesis One, Skillmill, and Skillrow.

KINESIS ONE - Balance and proprioception are fundamental to an efficacious golf swing for the efficient transfer of energy. For instance, The Kinesis One creates user anti-gravity defined resistance for rotational movement. The resistance is user-defined rather than following a fixed-path. The freedom movement is due to the anti-gravity technology which allows for force production to be in the direct pattern of motion without being influenced by gravity.

SKILLMILL – The use of physics and geometry by golfers to generate impressive club-head speeds is limited to the player’s ability to control their bodies through impact to guide the direction of the golf ball. The Skillmill is a non-motorized treadmill that forces the golfer to provide the motor and the breaks. For example: The belt of the Skillmill will only move as fast as the golfer can control it. Like the golf swing, complete control of the speed and motor forces an activation of key muscles in the core and the hips. This mechanism of action is important for injury prevention and increased golf performance.
SKILLROW – Increased mobility and strength through a full range of motion improves a golfer’s level of control over the golf swing. The proper kinematic sequencing of the golf swing incorporates multi-joint hip and back motions with a combination of cardiovascular and strength production. The Skillrow is the only performance-driven indoor rower that allows for a magnetic resistance called Multidrive Technology. The resistance is delivered seamlessly through a transition from traditional cardiovascular training into lower body power training. This movement is safe and does not overload the golfer’s spine.

Golf Health and Wellness

Although the golf swing has evolved over time from Old Tom Morris to Ben Hogan to Tiger Woods, the core philosophy remains constant. The proper utilization of the body’s energy sources through rotation can generate an impactful, safe, and dynamic swing that will last a long time. The PGA of America and Technogym partnership illustrates the importance of golf education and instruction coupled with wellness innovation and technology for not only an improved golf game, but an improved quality of life.
