CODE Students partners with Technogym to support students Health & Happiness

The center dedicated to offering luxury student accommodation chooses Technogym to equip the new gym at its Coventry site

CODE Students has a 10-year history of offering luxury student accommodation that goes well beyond the studio apartments. CODE’s Student Experience and Welfare Director Lynn Lewis explains why partnering with Technogym helps CODE create a meaningful fitness that enhances student wellbeing.

There’s an unfair stereotype about students,” says Lynn, a mental health specialist, “but recent research shows that 30% of University students don’t even drink. They are serious about their health and studies. CODE has always focused not just on the apartments we build, but on the communal spaces we offer. Our partnership with Technogym has helped us design appealing gym spaces that are a major selling point and a huge benefit for our residents.”

Within purpose-built student accommodation, the industry average space for communal areas is just 1m² per person. At their Coventry site, CODE has generously doubled this quota. Communal areas include outdoor spaces, study areas, games rooms, cinemas, and the stunning new Technogym gym.

The gym, a unique and inclusive space

All CODE sites, explains Lynn, are right in the heart of their cities and the aim is to connect students with the architecture of the city. In fact, CODE Coventry’s gym is a huge space overlooking the city centre: when students are on the cardio equipment, they will be looking out on to their new home.
The Gym has an amazing 60% sign up rate and Lynn puts this down to the innovative equipment, aesthetics, and functionality of the Technogym equipment.
The partnership with Technogym has allowed CODE to create a gym that would cater for everyone and that makes every student feel comfortable.

CODE leverage the gym as a key feature of the Coventry site. The team offer it as an incentive to new residents (who can use the gym as soon as they secure accommodation for the next academic year), and as a big wow-factor benefit to current residents.
In fact, it has something for everyone, from heavy weight training to functional fitness and meditative activities.
The 226 m² facility has three huge mirrored studios, which are used for yoga, HIIT, and other group classes and can also be booked by acting and dance students.
The gym floor is zoned into key areas packed with the latest Technogym kit, including a free weights zone, with racks, dumbbells and resistance machines, and a cardio zone. An eye-catching race track runs through the centre of the gym floor.

Innovative and engaging technologies

The CODE team opted for Technogym Skillbike and Skillrow because of their advanced levels of functionality and advanced features.
Skillbike is the revolutionary stationary bike that enables cyclists, triathletes and cycling enthusiasts to live the emotion and challenge of outdoor experiences in an indoor environment. Moreover, it is the first indoor bike with real gear that allows users to replicate the dynamics of hill riding.
Skillrow is the first indoor rowing equipment designed to improve anaerobic power, aerobic capacity and neuromuscular abilities in one solution. It has been designed to provide an unparalleled feeling that simulates the actual act of rowing on water: Aquafeel.
Thanks to Skillbike and Skillrow, students can stay in shape through personalized workouts based on their needs, adapting Technogym equipment to their own goals.

Technogym kit gives our residents a lot more than they’d expect to find at a gym during this period of their lives,” says Lynn. “That’s exactly the experience we want to give them.”
It was a great challenge to design and kit out a gym to suit experienced fitness enthusiasts, sports teams, elite athletes, newcomers to fitness, and overseas students from less sporty cultures. We are really grateful to Technogym for the advice and insights. Together we have achieved something we’re very proud of. And the 60% sign up rate and enthusiastic feedback speak volumes.”

Student and staff feedback

CODE Coventry’s gym is a dual-use facility, helping boost the physical and mental health of CODE staff members as well as residents.

I chose CODE because of the amazing facilities it has to offer,” says one student resident at CODE Coventry. “I don’t need to pay for a gym membership because there is one where I live!

The gym is my form of relaxation and a way for me to look after my self-esteem and mental health,” says a CODE Coventry staff member. “The CODE gym is a social space and everything I need to be innovative with my workouts so I stay motivated.”

Technogym as wellness partner in support of students

CODE organises a lot of welfare events, giveaways and activities to support student health and wellbeing.
Anything relating to fitness, explains Lynn, gets snapped up a lot faster than things connected to partying. “That doesn’t surprise us – we know that today’s students take their health and wellbeing seriously – and we are grateful to Technogym for the support as wellness partners.”

As CODE expands its Coventry site to accommodate more UK and international students, the gym will play a key role in supporting social and physical wellness.
CODE team, aware of the benefits of physical activity, has created a premium fitness offer at no extra cost to residents.

We are delighted to have Technogym as partners and advisors as we know this will keep us ahead of the game, in a position to offer students the facilities they deserve,” says Lynn.
