1980s: the birth of a dream
Nerio Alessandri, together with his brother Pierluigi, founds Technogym and designs his first machine in his garage at the age of 22.
1983
Nerio Alessandri founds Technogym, combining his passion for technology (TECHNO) and for sports (GYM).
He designs and builds his first machine in his garage at the age of 22.
1984
Just one year after being founded, Technogym develops and launches the Isotonic Line, the first full line for strength training.
1986: Unica is launched, the first product designed for domestic use. A complete gym which needs just one square meter, soon becoming a status symbol and an Icon of Italian design worldwide.
Late '80s
Technogym launches a partnership campaign in the world of football and Formula 1, becoming an official supplier of equipment for the athletic training of some of the biggest football clubs (including A.C. Milan), globally renowned sportsmen (like Formula 1 drivers Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher) and major international sport events (1990 Football World Cup).
1990s: from fitness to Wellness
In 1993 Nerio Alessandri introduces the concept of Wellness for the first time in history, sparking the change from an industry driven by self-indulgence towards physical exercise as a source of health both for the body and the mind. Technology becomes the driver of a historic shift towards a conscious approach to movement.
1990
Technogym invents the CPR (Constant Pulse Rate) system. For the first time in history, it’s the user’s heart rate that sets the intensity of the workout automatically.
1992
Technogym introduces the first equipment for rehabilitation in its product range, opening up to a series of medical applications enhancing the recovery process.
1996
The Wellness System is created, the first solution ever for managing training through a personal device, the portable TGS key. An archetypical example of wearable device, predating today’s world of smart watches and fitness trackers, the TGS key allowed to activate equipment and keep track of users programmes and training data.
2000s: Wellness is everyone's business
The acceleration of technology advancements calls for solutions to global problems. As the internet connects the planet and physical activity drops, entire populations face the need for education to movement and nutrition. Nerio Alessandri creates the Wellness Foundation to promote Wellness as a social opportunity.
2000
For the first time, Technogym is chosen as the Official Supplier for athletic training at the Olympics. In Sydney, more than 10,000 athletes train using Technogym equipment.
2002
Technogym launches the Wellness TV: the first TV screen integrated into a piece of fitness equipment. Nerio Alessandri creates the Wellness Foundation, a non-profit organization for researching and promoting Wellness as a social opportunity. One of the Foundation’s main projects is the Wellness Valley.
2007
Visioweb is created: it’s the first piece of fitness equipment connected to the web, a breakthrough that will enable exciting new possibilities for the Wellness experience.
2010s: the era of connected Wellness begins
The launch of the Technogym Ecosystem lights up a new age of physical activity, enabling people all over the world to bring their Wellness experience everywhere with no constraints and empowering them with a more conscious experience of movement.
2010
Opening of the first stores in Milan, New York and Moscow.
2012
Launch of mywellness – the first cloud platform in the fitness and Wellness sector offering users the possibility to access their personal programmes anywhere and anytime, while enabling operators to connect with their customers using a web and mobile system, inside and outside the gym.
2014
First edition of Let’s Move for a Better World, the social campaign aimed at reducing obesity and sedentariness. Powered by the Technogym Ecosystem, fitness and Wellness club customers can donate their movement for a good cause.
2015
Technogym is the headliner at Expo Milano 2015 with the “Let’s Move and Donate food” campaign which allows visitors to turn movement into meals donated to countries affected by malnutrition.
2016
Technogym is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange on May 3rd.
The release of Skillmill opens new horizons for athletic training. This innovative non-motorised equipment revolutionises the concept of the treadmill completely, enabling athletes to train indoors for speed, power and agility.
2018
The release of Biocircuit marks a new step in connected Wellness: delivering a complete strength and cardio workout in 30 minutes or less, its individually tailored programme is completely guided and adapts to the user’s needs.
